Easy & Tasty Snacks from the Freezer Case

Did you know that February is National Snack Month? Do you know how happy I was when I found out? I absolutely love snacks! In fact, as I type this up I’m snacking on one of the Test Kitchen’s brand new Southern Chicken and Waffle Bites. I really wish I could share one with you right now, so you could experience my joy. You’ll just have to make them at home and let me know what you think later on!

Anyway, snacking is pretty awesome. It’s another time in the day you get to eat! And the best thing about snack time is that you can usually do other things while you’re eating snacks. Like I said, I’m writing this blog AND enjoying these amazing waffle bites.

I like to think there are three important guidelines when it comes to snacks: 1) You must be able to eat the food using no utensils; 2) It must be something you can eat or prepare quickly if you have to; 3) It has to keep you satisfied until the next mealtime.

Keeping my guidelines in mind, I’ve found some tasty, and convenient, ways to add a little extra YUM to your snack time!

When most of us think of snacks, we think about granola bars, popcorn, potato chips, crackers, etc. Well, those are definitely snacks, but I want to tell you about all the snackabilities (snacks + possibilities…yes, you can use this technical phrase) that exist in your grocer’s FREEZER case.

Some of the snacks I found included, taquitos, chicken nuggets, pretzels, pierogis, fruit chunks, frozen yogurt bars, etc. I picked a few of my favorite and baked up a whole batch of them to share with my coworkers:

Now, while these things taste pretty darn good on their own, I thought they’d taste even better if I had something to dunk ‘em in. So, I made a few dipping sauces using recipes I found on www.MrFood.com.

I picked up a package of Asian-style sweet & sour chicken, put the sweet and sour sauce in one dipping bowl, and made this Hoisin Peanut Dipping Sauce as another dipping option (everyone likes options!). For the taquitos I knew I had to do either a salsa dip or a cheesy dip. Thankfully, I didn’t have to sacrifice either flavor ‘cause we had the perfect Queso Dip that combines the two! Finally, there was the pretzels. I know most people like to dip their pretzels in cheese, but I didn’t want to do another cheesy dip, so this time I went with something fresh, creamy, and delicious: California Onion Dip. These dips were so easy to put together and really made these snacks even tastier.

Of course, ketchup or a homemade ranch sauce are also good dipping options, especially for pierogies and chicken nuggets!

There are a ton of snackabilities in the freezer aisle. In fact, tomorrow I’m going to buy those fresh fruit slices covered in chocolate to snack on. If you’re looking for even more snack ideas and recipes, check out Easy Home Meals or Mr. Food Test Kitchen

Okay, since I’ve been talking about some of my favorite snacks, I want to know:
